Pitch Geography

Pitch geography outlines both the areas on the field as you move from your own goal to your opponents goal, but also the areas of the pitch as you move across it from side to side. The following graphics outline the field in all directions, north, south, east and west.

Pitch Geography: Zone 1-4

Zone 1

IN POSSESSION

Zone 1 is our "Build Up" zone. Dispersal, Mobility and Support are key to success in Zone 1. We utilize our three CBs and Goalie to move the ball from side to side to fix our opponent and allow time for our team to generate mobility and establish our attacking platforms.

Zone 2

IN POSSESSION

Zone 2 is our "Creation" zone. Mobility and Dispersal are critical in this zone to allow us to create open spaces and passing lanes. As we start to open up the field, we are allowing our 3 CBs the time and space to make critical decisions in our build.

Zone 3

IN POSSESSION

Zone 3 is our "Force the Opponent" zone. Penetration and support are highlighted in this zone. Our ability to receive the ball and penetrate the back line will provoke the opponent and force them to have to make decisions.

Zone 4

IN POSSESSION

Zone 4 is our "Final Actions" zone. Improvisation and Penetration are primary attacking principles that are highlighted in this zone.
